Big data has become an increasingly important part of the sports medicine field, as it can be used to notice trends in injuries, leading to an improved ability to diagnose, treat, and prevent injuries in the future.

Possible Sources:

Source 1: (Brian Sharp, “Sports focus of UR big data research”, Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, Newspaper article, 3 June 2015) This article focuses on a specific use of big data in the sports medicine field. The article overviews a new program that researchers are trying out, using big data to help prevent injuries. I will use this article to look at the positives that big data can have on the sports medicine world.

Source 2: (Bernard Marr, “How Big Data Is Changing Healthcare”, Forbes, Magazine article, 25 April 2015) While this article does not focus specifically on the sports medicine field, it does provide a good insight on the effect that big data is having on healthcare as a whole. I can use this article at the beginning of my paper to introduce how big data relates to healthcare, then move specifically into the sports medicine field later on in the paper.

Source 3: Still looking for one.

Plan: Currently my plan is to continue looking for more sources. I need to find at least 1 or 2 more sources that show the impact big data has on Sports Medicine. Once I find those sources, I should be ready to draft because I have a pretty good idea of the direction that I am looking to go in.

Thesis: stance is well shown but you’re missing the privacy aspect. How does privacy play a role in the sports medicine field and where would it be without it? Relate big data to privacy and patient confidentiality and the effect it has on both.

Sources: both articles look reliable in the sense of the site or newspaper in which they are from, for the third one, these sources may be reliable and applicable to your stance but also the including of a naysayer.

Both of your current sources are still relevant, seeming they are both only two years old.

    Hi, Alex,
I agree with Kaylee about the need to take a stance on the aspect of privacy. Your third source may focus on this aspect. Are athletes volunteering their data? Are there drawbacks to doing so? Good start!
